"We expected far more from Germany’s address at the UN poverty summit today. Germany failed to explain how they will meet their promises of aid to poor countries, and sidestepped their responsibility to make aid work by laying this at the door of the poorest countries.
"Chancellor Merkel missed her opportunity to join Presidents Sarkozy and Zapatero in their call for a bank tax that could raise billions for development. Whether Germany can still claim to be a development leader is now questionable."
