Climate change is fuelling hunger for millions of people around the world. Extreme weather events have increased five-fold over the past 50 years, destroying homes, decimating livelihoods, fuelling conflict and displacement, and deepening inequality.

Climate change is deepening hunger in 10 of the world's worst climate hotspots: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Guatemala, Haiti, Kenya, Madagascar, Niger, Somalia and Zimbabwe. These countries – which had the highest number of UN appeals driven by extreme weather events – have repeatedly been battered by extreme weather over the last two decades. 

The humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine has mobilized overwhelming solidarity for those affected from people across the world. Still, the situation is getting more dire as the crisis continues and winter approaches. We call for sustained solidarity and a more structured approach to response to this prolonged crisis.
