International Non-Governmental Organisations working in Myanmar say 600,000 Rohingya still left in Myanmar face daily discrimination and human rights abuses, making conditions unsafe for refugees to return.

Strong earthquakes and aftershocks continued to rattle Lombok sending its people, already reeling from the massive destruction in the previous weeks, running scared for their lives. 

Rohingya women living in Bangladesh are developing health problems, missing out on aid and are at greater risk of abuse due to unsafe and unsuitable facilities in many parts of the refugee camp.

A third earthquake with a magnitude of 6 which struck Lombok earlier today has severely escalated the need for life-saving aid and has slowed down rescue efforts.

Many people are still reported buried due to landslides in the hills and the rubble of thousands of homes and buildings that have collapsed following the main earthquake and multiple aftershocks. 

Last night the Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced four new confirmed cases of Ebola in Mangina area, in the territory of Beni, province of North Kivu. This comes only nine days after a similar outbreak in Equateur province in the western part of the country was officially declared over.

"Oxfam exists to help improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable people; we know we failed to protect vulnerable women in Haiti, and we accept we should have reported more clearly at the time - for that we are truly sorry. We have made improvements since 2011 but recognize we have further to go," said Caroline Thomson, Oxfam Great Britain’s Chair of Trustees.

The Criminal Court of Paraguay’s Supreme Court unanimously overturned the 2016 conviction of eleven farmers, including three women, for what has become known as the “Curuguaty massacre.”
