Over 60 activists, social movements, and women food producers that have gathered in Maputo,
Mozambique for Women Food Convening 2023 conference say that the current global food
system is exploitative, broken, unjust, marginalises women and exacerbates gender inequalities
and hunger particularly in low-income countries.

On this World Humanitarian Day, Oxfam and the Global Protection Cluster join the humanitarian community in celebrating frontline humanitarian leaders working to protect the lives and rights of people living through crises. 

West Africa is struck by the coronavirus pandemic, as much by the virus itself as it is also struck by the impacts of measures put in place by governments to prevent the virus from spreading among the most vulnerable populations. But the region has a major asset: its youth who, in times of crisis, has chosen to mobilize and be part of the solution.

The people marched with a clear and urgent message, but world leaders still refuse to listen.

The current internal conflict in Iraq, its ensuing displacement and emerging returns, coupled with political and economic crises facing the country, are just the latest in a series of ongoing upheavals that Iraq’s youth are experiencing. 

Almost one-third of the Senegalese population is between 10 and 24 – the age in which most people become sexually active. However, sexuality education is very limited, which makes young people vulnerable to unwanted pregnancies or HIV. Implemented by Oxfam, the Connecting 4 Life program has been conceived to fill this gap through an innovative approach.

‘My Rights, My Voice’ (MRMV) is a program that has been implemented in eight countries. This evaluation aims to systematically analyze the actual outcomes of the program and its underlying working mechanisms against the proposed outcomes and MRMV’s theory of change.

Young women and men today must grapple with serious social, political and environmental problems inherited from their elders. By marshaling the energy, creativity and talents of youth to address the multiple inequalities they face, we will all reap a ‘demographic dividend’ and build a fairer world.

Generational inequality has grown at an alarming rate, paralleling the rise in the gap between rich and poor. Despite their potential and strength in numbers, youth continue to be culturally and politically marginalized. Yet, they could be instrumental in finding solutions to the challenges of poverty.
