The people of Africa’s Sahel region are facing an increasing risk of widespread food crisis, following a series of crises over recent years which has slashed incomes, undermined livelihoods

Despite its vital importance, West African agriculture is characterized by low productivity and beset with economic, social and environmental limitations.

In 2010, more than 10 million people have been affected by the food crisis in the Sahel.

Given the rapid expansion and recurrence of the food crises in West Africa and the inadequate responses of policy makers and other actors, Oxfam and Bilital Maroobe say it is necessary to rethink the strategies to implement in order to respond to these recurring disasters.
