A touring exhibition by Oxfam and Amnesty International’s Greek Section showcasing items donated by Greeks to refugees and migrants has received two Gold Ermis Awards from Greece’s most prestigious advertising and communications body.
‘Museum Without A Home’, produced by creative agency Bold Ogilvy & Mather, was launched in November 2016 in venues across Athens, including at the Acropolis. In parallel, through the campaign website, people could share information, take action and sign a pledge to support this exhibition of hospitality. The campaign’s messages have travelled far beyond the Greek borders and the warm response to this initiative has been evident through the enthusiastic comments on social media and proposals for cooperation around the world.
Responding to the news, Nicola Bay, Country Director of Oxfam in Greece said:
“We are overjoyed this project has been recognized by the prestigious Ermis committee. It would not have been possible without the generosity and solidarity of the Greek people. The `Museum Without A Home` is a tribute to the history being made by Greeks who continue to support, in a very difficult time, people who had to leave their country in search of safety and dignity.
This initiative is dedicated to humanity and hope, two values we cannot allow to fade, especially as EU leaders stick to their migration policies that aim at increasing restrictions on the movement of people. EU leaders should learn from the citizens of Greece who understand and sympathize with the plights and rights of refugees and migrants.”
Dimitra Spatharidou, Campaigns & Activism coordinator of Amnesty International’s Greece Section, said:
“We are proud being part of this joint initiative dedicated to the Greek people who welcomed and embraced, with their hospitality, people who had fled their country.”
Yiannis Sideris, Executive Creative Director of Bold Ogilvy & Mather, commented:
“Each award we earn is a pleasure because it means our hard work does not go unrecognized. However, the two Gold Ermis awards we received for the “Museum Without A Home” campaign are especially important to us, as this work was in aid of a very meaningful cause supported by Oxfam and Amnesty International Greece.”
