Responding to the latest finance text that came out today, international climate change policy adviser Tim Gore said:
“The latest draft gives us hope that a Climate Fund can be agreed in Cancun. A fair Climate Fund would be a huge step forward in creating the structure that will support developing countries in reducing their emissions and protecting vulnerable people from the impacts of climate change.
"However, the current draft sees too many important decisions being left to a technical design process over the next year. Ministers must make key political decisions by the time they leave Cancun. There is no reason for further delay.
"These include equitable representation on the Board, ensuring sufficient funds are allocated for adaptation needs, simplified procedures for access to funds and the inclusion of gender-sensitive approaches.
“The Climate Fund is an essential building block from Cancun to get the negotiations back on track, and to generate momentum towards a final global deal."
