As Oxfam leaders from across the world, attending our annual board meetings in Kenya, we send our solidarity to the people of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi whose lives have been devastated by cyclone Idai. Our hearts go out to the families of those who have perished, and the more than 2.6 million people who have been robbed of precious livelihoods, homes and lands. Many of these people were already struggling to make ends meet and living in communities with fragile infrastructures such as roads, water and power.

Two rapid assessment teams have arrived in the two small southern Vanuatu islands hit hardest by Cyclone Pam to rapidly assess exactly what survivors of the disaster need.

Around the world, devastation caused by climate-related events is growing, forcing people from their homes, bringing poverty on top of poverty and increasing hunger. For Oxfam, this is an issue of justice: those living in poverty are the hardest hit by climate change despite being the least responsible for the crisis. It's time to act now.

Oxfam India will provide water, sanitation and shelter to initially 60,000 people affected by Cyclone Phailin. Kudos to India for quick and decisive early warning actions to save lives, having moved nearly a million people into temporary shelters.

The international community must financially support those affected by Cyclone Aila, which hit Bangladesh a year ago. With the threat of an impending monsoon, people cannot return to their homes until damaged embankments are rebuilt.

Oxfam called for additional funding for the 2008 Cyclone Nargis survivors in Myanmar today, saying the upcoming monsoon season is posing a serious threat to their recovery with shelter still a pressing need and agriculture at risk.

Hundreds of thousands of people who survived Myanmar's worst-ever cyclone are facing the prospect of being trapped in debt with little prospect of securing further credit or loans and need urgent help from the international community.
