According to the latest statistics, an estimated 9.3 million people in Syria are now food insecure. This is almost half of the population in a war-torn country whose lives and livelihoods have been affected by the economic impact of coronavirus, with the most vulnerable hit the hardest. 

No-one can escape the devastating grip of war. For women, it can mark a point of no return. But it can also be a door to new opportunities. Through examples from Iraq, the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Yemen, this report analyses the impact war and occupation have had on the lives of women.

This report outlines Oxfam’s proposal for a new and balanced approach to managing migration – one that protects people and promotes the benefits associated with migration for European host countries, people on the move and their countries of origin.

Beatrice, 19, fled the war in South Sudan with her husband and young baby after her mother was raped and killed.  Today, she lives with her family in Imvepi Refugee Settlement, among other 95,000 people. She is just one of the one million South Sudanese refugees currently hosted in nearby Uganda.

We are assisting them to access free and safe travel by training canoe operators and distributing vouchers for transport.

From Syria to South Sudan, the lives of more than 125 million people around the world have been devastated by conflict or disaster. It is time for the international community to change how it provides humanitarian aid to these vulnerable populations.
