People in the Dominican Republic and Haiti are facing “the day after” Hurricane Irma, which caused widespread damage overnight. Oxfam teams will immediately asses the needs of the most vulnerable people in the heaviest-hit areas, mainly in the north of both countries. 

Oxfam country teams and partner organizations in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba are now preparing to respond to probable damage from the impact of Hurricane Irma, to help people who are likely to be hardest-hit there.

Oxfam is providing clean water and hygiene kits to survivors of yesterday’s mudslide on the outskirts of Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Another poor rainy season, the third in a row, has plunged 700,000 more people into crippling hunger and on the verge of starvation in the Somali region of southern Ethiopia.

Oxfam is increasing its relief efforts to help thousands who have been hit by the floods and landslides in Sri Lanka. We are working through its partners in five districts of the country: Colombo, Gampaha, Kegalle, Puttalam and Ratnapura. We have reached so far almost 7,000 people with distributing hygiene kits and setting up temporary latrines.
