In this briefing Oxfam presents new data analysis that demonstrates the extent of global carbon inequality by estimating and comparing the lifestyle consumption emissions of rich and poor citizens in different countries.

New Oxfam-commissioned research, carried out by Climate Analytics, uses modelling to assess the impact of aggregate Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) ambition. The technical specifications and calibration of the models used are explained in this paper. 

There is likely to be a climate deal in Paris. The emission pledges that more than 150 governments have put on the table this year show that global climate ambition is increasing. The India climate action plan for Paris announced today contains the headline pledge to cut the carbon intensity of its economy by 33-35% by 2030. 

Oxfam will support the Voice2Paris global storytelling contest launched in August by the United National Development Programme (UNDP) by providing three additional fellowships for participating journalists to cover the UN Conference on Climate Change, COP21, in Paris in December.
