International agency Oxfam today welcomed the announcement by the UN Secretary General to create a global Zero Hunger Challenge to eliminate hunger and ensure that everyone everywhere has enough to eat while living within the earth’s limits.

International aid agency Oxfam today releases a digital edition of its report Growing a Better Future: Food justice in a resource constrained world, to coincide with the beginning of ‘GROW Week’ – a week of activism highlighting the world’s broken food system.

The UN’s Committee on World Food Security today showed that it is up to its role as the central body of the global governance on food security, agriculture and nutrition. However a number of governments showed that they are not yet ready to address the structural causes of the broken food system.

While the international community has stepped up to help those impacted by mega-emergencies, such as the earthquake in Haiti or the floods in Pakistan, unfortunately, “slow-onset” humanitarian crises, such as the worsening drought in the Horn in Africa, have not received the same attention.
