Forty-three percent of women surveyed across five countries reported feeling more anxious, depressed, isolated, overworked, or ill because they are having to shoulder even more unpaid care work as a result of the coronavirus crisis, said Oxfam today. 

From Christmas Eve to Christmas Day Typhoon Phanfone hit the Philippines seven times. It is the 21st Typhoon to wreak havoc in the Philippines this year and many of the affected communities were still struggling to get back on their feet in the wake of Typhoon Kammuri which hit earlier in the same month. 

Oxfam and partners are providing clean drinking water to three indigenous communities in Rizal where people have walked six hours by foot to reach the town center.

The areas of Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga and Apayao seem to be some of the worst hit regions at this point, with significant damage to shelter, infrastructure, and agriculture.  

Super Typhoon Mangkhut is the 15th storm to hit the Philippines this year and, so far, the strongest for 2018. An average of 20 typhoons hit the country each year.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that 4.3 million people live in the projected path of this destructive storm.

We are ready to dispatch rapid assessment teams to survey the damage left in the path of Typhoon Koppu, and assess and respond to the greatest needs if the Philippines Government requests international assistance.

In February and March 2014, Oxfam carried out field research in the Philippines with people displaced by typhoon Haiyan in order to inform and influence the government-led process for their relocation.

A year after the super-typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, we are calling for governments to increase efforts to address the challenges of climate change adpatation and disaster risk reduction.
