More than 80 million people around the world are now officially displaced from their homes. Migration is not a threat to be stopped, it is a complex phenomenon to be managed. Everyone has the right to be safe and to be treated with dignity. Oxfam works with refugees and migrants to help protect people on the move who, when leaving home, are often in the most vulnerable moment of their lives.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Sahrawi refugee camps in the Southwest Algerian desert, 40 Sahrawi refugees have lent their faces to the “40 faces 40 years” photo exhibition in an attempt to shed a light on an entire generation that never experienced anything other than life as a refugee.

A toilet, conveniently situated near the Student Union Bar at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), is proving pee can generate electricity. The prototype urinal is the result of a partnership between researchers at UWE Bristol and Oxfam. It is hoped the pee-power technology will light cubicles in refugee camps, which are often dark and dangerous places particularly for women. 

The implications of Syria's protracted conflict for Jordan are significant and the humanitarian strategy moving forward into 2014 is underscored by unpredictable inflows of refugees.

The world risks failing the people of Syria as the scale of suffering increases and the humanitarian fall-out from the crisis worsens by the day.
