Oxfam is prepared for a major disaster response in the Philippines after Cyclone Hagupit was upgraded to a Super Typhoon – the same classification as Typhoon Haiyan – which wrought destruction on the country a year ago.
Despite widespread destruction and massive logistical obstacles in the wake of the Philippines typhoon, fast action backed by generous international support and the solidarity of local people has helped millions of people survive and prevented any major outbreak of disease.
Oxfam teams in Haiti are working to prepare communities to help avoid damage from Tropical Storm Isaac, which is expected to hit the country today (Friday 24 August), and are also preparing contingency stocks of aid and emergency response teams.
