After ceasefire talks collapsed and violence erupted yet again, Oxfam today called on all states to immediately suspend transfers of arms or ammunition to Israel and any Palestinian armed group.

History will be made today at the United Nations as many governments sign an Arms Trade Treaty designed to protect millions living in daily fear of armed violence.

In reaction to 62 states signing the Arms Trade Treaty today at the United Nations in New York, Anna Macdonald, Head of Arms Control, Oxfam said:

The Control Arms Coalition today say the vote for the first ever global treaty to regulate the international arms trade marks ‘an incredible moment’ signalling the dawn of a new era.

International aid agency Oxfam condemns Syria, Iran and North Korea for blocking  agreement today of the Arms Trade Treaty, which would have saved lives and closed the many loopholes that unscrupulous arms dealers now navigate with impunity.

Anna Macdonald, Oxfam’s Head of Arms Control, said:

Campaigners today say radical changes must be made to the latest draft of the Arms Trade Treaty by the Presidency of the Conference, if the treaty is to save lives.

In response to the release of the revised text last night (Friday), Anna Macdonald, Oxfam's Head of Arms Control, said:

Governments from over 190 member states have a second chance to make history this month by agreeing the first ever Arms Trade Treaty, a coalition of NGOs and human rights groups said today.

Arms and bullets continue to destroy lives. Every continent in the world is marred by devastation caused by armed violence.
