Andy Baker who heads up Oxfam's response to the Syria crisis said:
"Millions of Syrians have left their country to flee war, death and destruction. It is unthinkable to leave them hungry.
"With harsh weather conditions settling in the region, and refugees needing food aid more than ever, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Syria might go hungry this winter. Refugees are already struggling to find shelter and keep their children warm in areas where the temperature can drop below freezing at night. Now they will also have to scramble for basic food. The international community can't sit and watch this happen. Rich countries must step up and support the World Food Programme and other humanitarian organizations in order to avoid unnecessary suffering and potential loss of life."
