How can I apply?
We will post vacancies on this page and on our social media platforms when they open. Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to consider spontaneous applications.
How long does it take for I hear back from you?
We aim to short-list candidates within three weeks of the closing date, and then to reach out to shortlisted candidates within a week to set up an interview.
Where is the position located?
The Oxfam EU office is based in Brussels, Belgium. We expect our colleagues to work from the EU office for 2-3 days a week, and to be available for in-person meetings with our targets and allies in Brussels.
What does the daily work consist of?
This depends on specific role, but generally for advocacy positions, the successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time interacting with our main targets (the European Commission, Parliament and Council), linking up to allies, developing powerful briefings, doing media interviews, and supporting colleagues and partners to organise meetings in Brussels. As Oxfam is a large organisation, working in 80 countries and across 10 EU countries, there is also an element of internal coordination. Next to this, we expect each colleague to contribute to the nice and feminist office environment that we have built together.
How many colleagues will I be working with?
This depends on your team. The Oxfam EU office hosts approximately 30 colleagues. Learn more about our colleagues here.
Tell me more about the contract?
We usually offer a one-year contract with possibility for renewal and a permanent contract, depending on funding. We value a good work-life balance and flexibility, which is why we offer (limited) remote working opportunities, parental and care leave on top of the legally required leave, part-time options and compressed hours.
Does the Oxfam EU office sponsor visas for non-EU citizens?
Yes, we do, but given the amount of work it entails for our admin colleagues, we tend to only do this for roles that have multi-year funding.
What are some of the (non-monetary) benefits that you offer?
We think it is important to be transparent about our salary scales, so we will always post the median salary in our adverts. Next to this, we offer 25 days of holiday (plus public holidays), a pension scheme, life assurance cover, a representation allowance, and a travel allowance. You will get a budget to set up your home office too. In addition, we have many formal and informal trainings for everyone in our office to develop yourself personally and professionally, team outings, movie nights, brown-bag lunches, a sweet spot full of home-made cakes and treats, heat blankets for those who feel cold in the Brussels weather, and many others!
