While the war in Gaza continues, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have forced people to flee their homes. The government has estimated that around 1 million individuals (around 20% of the population) have been displaced.
Thousands of people are in need of humanitarian aid. Without enough food, water, shelter, and medicine, conditions will become unlivable for people who have fled. Many households remain stranded without access to safe shelter and housing due to the high rate of displacement.
- On the 23 and 24 of September, more than 250 Israeli warplanes dropped about 2,000 missiles on Lebanon.
- In the span of a day, the strikes killed over 558 individuals, including 50 children, and injured 1,835 others.
- UNHCR estimates that 35% of displaced persons are children, whereas 52% are women and girls.

What is happening in Lebanon?
Lebanon has faced crisis after crisis in recent years, including a refugee crisis from the Syrian civil war, the Beirut port blast in 2020, a cholera outbreak, and an economic crisis that has resulted in skyrocketing poverty and the collapse of essential public services. It can’t afford to bear the weight of this added disaster on its own.
Access to food, water & sanitation, and other necessary services has considerably decreased for low-income displaced households in Lebanon, who remain in urgent need of assistance.
The situation is devastating. People desperately need an immediate and permanent ceasefire to end the death and destruction, allow the delivery of more aid and enable the safe release of hostages.
The failure to reach a ceasefire, and end the atrocities in Gaza is fuelling further escalations in Lebanon and across the region.
