Speaking at a press conference at the Rio+20 Summit, Barbara Stocking, Chief Executive, Oxfam GB said:
“Global co-operation breaks down when countries break their promises. Rich countries have broken their promises to provide aid to the countries that need it most. President Hollande and other European leaders have the means to rebuild that trust with a Financial Transaction Tax with half the money devoted to climate and development. They must make it a reality when they meet in Rome tomorrow.
“Rio+20 has been a blind alley. The 1992 Earth Summit vision of overcoming poverty and re-storing our planet is more urgent and relevant than ever. With governments not taking responsibility we must all continue to push for the sustainable, healthy planet we need and take action where we can.”
