OXFAM REACTION: G20 finance ministers
Oxfam spokesperson Luc Lamprière said:
Innovative financing
”The G20’s increased focus on a financial transaction tax could be a real breakthrough for the poorest countries, who desperately need financing to cope with soaring food prices, climate change and worsening poverty.”
Food speculation
“Fast action is needed on the G20’s call today for better transparency and regulation of commodity markets. Excessive speculation is amplifying price volatility and exacerbating the food crisis.”
Green Fund
The G20’s backing a Green Fund for climate change is good news, now the international community must devote a major share of this to helping farmers in poor countries adapt to climate change.”
Economic growth
“The G20 talks about sustainable and inclusive economic growth – today they’ve locked down the growth part, now they need to shape up the sustainable and inclusive aspects of this agenda.”
