Oxfam welcomes the United Nations Security Council's renewed authorization of UN agencies and other humanitarian organizations to deliver emergency assistance to the Syrian civilians from neighboring countries. By renewing the authorization of these cross-border aid deliveries, millions of people in Syria will continue to receive crucial humanitarian relief.
When the original resolution was passed three years ago, 10 million people needed humanitarian assistance in Syria - a number that has grown substantially, with many vulnerable people, including the elderly, pregnant women, and infants, trapped in hard to reach areas.
Moutaz Adham, Oxfam's Syria Country Director, said: "With 13 million people in need of assistance across Syria today, the international community should build on this important moment of cooperation by redoubling efforts to improve access to humanitarian aid by all means available - both cross-line and cross-border, including hard-to-reach and besieged areas - and strengthen the peace process."
