ICAN wins Nobel Peace Prize

Publicado: 6th Octubre 2017

Oxfam congratulates the International Campaign for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) on winning the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.

Martin Butcher, Oxfam's Policy Advisor on Arms and Conflict, said: "Oxfam welcomes the award of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize to ICAN and its outstanding contribution to efforts in reducing the threat of nuclear war.  ICAN wins this prize at a time when the risk of the use of nuclear weapons is greater than it has been for many years.

"ICAN work continues to underline the utter catastrophe that would result from nuclear war. Oxfam believes that no realistic humanitarian response would meet the human needs for shelter, food, water and medicines in such an event. The only way to prevent such human suffering and environmental catastrophe is the elimination of nuclear weapons and tight international controls on explosive nuclear materials."
